Drones Quilt Project Update

Hello Friends,

The U.S. version of the Drones Quilt Project is going full steam!  I have received over 90 completed quilt blocks and I have begun sewing them together.  I have built a website to support the project:  www.dronesquiltproject.wordpress.com and you can see all of the blocks as well as other pertinent info.

I recently had 50 names turned back in to me from someone whose event fell through, so I now have 50 names which need to be assigned.  If you would like to make a block with a name, please contact me by e-mail:  leahbolger@comcast.net.

If you would like to make a block that says “Unnamed woman,” or something like that, those blocks are welcome as well since only about 20% of the victims names are known.  Toby Blome had a good idea as well which some of you might want to do, and that is to make a block for a specific attack, like “43 Men Killed in attack on a Jirga.”  If you know of a specific circumstance like that and you would like to make a block to memorialize it, feel free, but please send me a link to the source of that information.

If you signed up for a block and you haven’t made it yet, I would like to gently nudge you.  There is no deadline…I think this will be an on-going project for a while, but I would like to get the completed blocks back as soon as you can complete them because there is still a good bit of work to do putting them together.

If you have completed a block, I would like to invite you to send me a few sentences about what making the block meant to you.  I have created a page on the website called “Artists’ Reflections,” and it is really lovely to see how people have been touched by participating in the project.  If you have a photo of yourself to go along with your thoughts, that would be great too!

Please help me publicize the project by forwarding the website, and following the Twitter account:  @dronesquilt.

Thanks everyone!

Leah Bolger
